Payment Options for Public Transport in Malta

  1. Cash: €2.50 per trip
  2. Contactless Payment: €2.50 per trip
  3. Transport Card: Free to €3.00 per trip, depending on the service you want to use.

The fare varies based on your payment method. With a resident’s transport card, travel is logged but remains free.

You can order a transport card on the official website: Tallinja Card.

Ticket Validity

When you purchase a bus ticket, it is valid for 90 minutes. During this time, you can make unlimited transfers between buses.

Ferry Services in Malta

Malta’s transport infrastructure also includes ferries that run between key locations:

  • Valletta to Sliema
  • Valletta to Birgu

If you choose to pay for the ferry in cash, the fare is an additional €2.00 one way or €3.80 for a round trip.
